72% Estonian doctors have higher workload than prescribed

BC, Tallinn, 26.09.2014.Print version
A fresh Estonian doctors' workload study shows that 72 percent of respondents work with a higher workload than the full working time prescribed by law, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonian Doctors Association conducted an online survey in June this year to learn what the doctors' workload is.

The study involved 862 doctors.

Reducing the workload of physicians was agreed upon in the collective labour agreement signed two years ago, but the Estonian Doctors Association says that it is generally not followed in hospitals. The Association said that overtime harms doctors' health and performance, and is a potential risk to patients.
