BC, Tallinn, 19.09.2014.Print version
The Estonian government has decided to go forward with the plan to create a Russian-language TV channel by the Estonian Public Broadcasting, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

This was preferred at the cabinet meeting over all other alternatives, the national television ETV's evening news programme reported.

The initial aim is to launch the channel in September 2015.

In addition, it is planned to allocate from next year's state budget EUR 390,000, which will be used to produce a longer weekly news programme besides the daily short Russian language news broadcasts aired in ETV and the programme of the Russian-language Radio 4 will also be supplemented.

Culture Minister Urve Tiidus confirmed that the preparations for the Russian channel are moving forward.

"This means that in a couple of months, the Public Broadcasting should come to the government with a very serious and in-depth analysis of how much such a channel would cost and what existing resources could be used there," she explained.
