During a video conference today, Latvian Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs and Polish Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Marek Sawicki said that if the European Commission would like to offer the appropriate support to the farmers hit by the Russian food embargo, the EU's agriculture budget would have the necessary resources, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

During their video conference, the ministers discussed joint tactics and further action in discussions with the EC regarding the necessity for EU support measures to the agriculture industry affected by the Russia sanctions.

Both ministers were in agreement that closer cooperation within the European Commission is necessary to win positive support for farmers, as well as make sure the Commission's actions are effective.

''Latvia has on several occasions turned to the EC requesting support mechanism for farmers, especially dairy farmers, hit by the Russia food embargo. If the three Baltic countries, as well as Finland and Poland are united in this matter, there is a possibility that the EC will finally understand that a special approach is needed for these five countries,'' Duklavs said.
