Lithuanian Business Confederation: it’s not enough to complete higher education

BC, Vilnius, 08.07.2014.Print version
Participants of the sixth World Lithuanian Economic Forum gathered in Vilnius. The event highlights the importance of education in creating new jobs and development of the state, informs LETA/ELTA.

According to Valdas Sutkus, President of Lithuanian Business Confederation, education is tightly related to economy. It is more and more often talked about knowledge-driven economy, business which is based on advance technology. Sutkus says that as generations are currently changing it is being discussed actively what the education should be like.

"There is a challenge. In today's integrated digital world it probably is not enough to complete radio-electronics or law studies, or construction, or to finish any other higher education. It is perhaps a necessary condition to create high wage economy but is not nearly enough. We must move forward and think how to integrate our efforts into the global market, how to find a place for us there," Sutkus said at a press conference on Monday.

The president of Lithuanian Business Confederation noted that the organisation takes education problems seriously and added that it is involved in many projects encouraging life-long learning, entrepreneurship of school students and finding placements for students.

"Clearly, by not learning the whole life and without organising such events where we can share impressions from London, Washington, Berlin, Vilnius or Mazeikiai we will not be moving forward as a part of the global society. Lithuania has already become global. It is a new challenge which has to be perceived and the situation has to be managed so that Lithuania benefits from it," said Sutkus.

Sutkus also announced that next year the World Lithuanian Economic Forum will take place in Israel.
