Agriculture Ministry to request EU Commission's aid for Latvian grain farms

BC, Riga, 10.04.2014.Print version
The Agriculture Ministry has completed analysis of incoming data about winter crops destroyed by the snowless winter and decided to turn the European Commission asking it to help Latvian farmers, as the ministry informed the Nozare.lv portal, cites LETA.

Starting April 9, farmers may apply for area payments in 2015 via the Rural Support Service's Electronic Application System. In order to increase farmers' amount of current assets, the Rural Support Service will provide faster payment of state aid – already in May and not in July as was the original plan.

The Rural Consulting and Education Center said previously that 70% of winter crops in Latvia had been destroyed or badly damaged due to very little snow this past winter.
