The Cabinet in Lithuania approved of the draft law on private detective activities proposed by the Ministry of Interior, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to Lithuania's Minister of Interior Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas, such a decision was made because the constitutional human rights and freedoms were one of the most significant values and the private and public life of every Lithuania's citizens had to be protected by the state.

"Therefore, while licensing these activities, the tighter conditions should be imposed because the private detectives could use various measures that create the opportunity to observe not only the public but private life of every person as well. And this is the main violation of the Constitution," said Barakauskas.

However, the minister could not say the date from which the draft law could come into the effect because the Seimas had still to consider this issue. Barakauskas could not also say how many private detectives or spies there were in the country.
