Lithuanian PM: excise taxes on alcohol will be increased gradually

BC, Vilnius, 04.03.2014.Print version
Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius assures that there will be only one change in tax system – increase in excise duty on alcohol, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to him, the Government prepares a three-year plan on taxing alcohol.

"After the elections a draft law on taxes will be submitted, that is an increase in excise duties on alcoholic beverages. At present we are holding a dialogue with alcoholic beverage producers and we will really complete this dialogue by July. This draft law will provide for the whole excise duty policy implemented on alcoholic beverages for three years, so it would not be changed," said the prime minister at an interview to the national radio LRT on Tuesday morning.

The head of the government assures that there are now discussions over other tax drafts and there is no possibility for them to be submitted to the Seimas.
