Estonian beekeepers ask for limitation of chemicals

BC, Tallinn, 17.02.2014.Print version
Estonian association of beekeepers addressed the Estonian government with a demand to protect beekeeping which suffers from excessive amount of chemical substances used in agriculture, Estonian broadcasting corporation ERR said in a statement, cites LETA.

During recent years, about 30% of Estonia-kept bees perished because of wide and often unnecessary implementation of chemical weed killers and pest distroyers. As a result, beekeeping industry looses approximately three million euros a year.

Therefore, Estonia's beekeepers asked the government to regulate and sharply limit the amount of substances used for safeguarding plants.

The beekeepers also asked to treat beekeepers the same way as other agriculturers in terms of granting subsidies and allowances. The beekeepers also suggested to form a beekeeping pannel in order to solve the most difficult issues.
