Estonia can fish for more Baltic herring and cod in the Baltic Sea

An agreement was reached at the 2014 Baltic Sea fisheries negotiations that ended in Luxembourg that next year, the fishing possibilities of Baltic herring in the open part of the sea and Baltic herring and cod in the Livonian Bay will increase for Estonia, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonian environment minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, who represented Estonia at the talks, said that the results of the talks should cheer Estonian fishermen.

 

In the open part of the Baltic Sea, Estonia's Baltic herring fishing quota increases in 2014 by 25%, 2,533 tonnes to 12,664 tonnes. In the Livonian Bay, 66 tonnes more of Baltic herring can be caught, i.e. 14,186 tonnes.

 

The fishing quota for Baltic sprats however fell by 4% to 27,489 tonnes.

 

The cod fishing quota for Estonian fishermen is 1,641 tonnes, by 69 tonnes more than in 2013.

 

Salmon fishing quota falls to 3,589 fish, by 283 less than this year.
