5-year judicial inquiry into digital television criminal case finally comes to a close in Latvia

Today, the Riga Regional Court concluded its five-year judicial inquiry in the so-called digital television criminal case, writes LETA.

Court debates have not yet been started, as those involved will be given time to prepare. As LETA found out from the court, court debates will start on November 20, and the first up will be the prosecutor in the case.

 

There are currently 19 persons charged in the criminal case, which was originally started on August 28, 2008.

 

As reported, the agreement between the Digital Latvian Radio and Television Center (DLRTC) and the company Kempmayer Media Limited envisaged the introduction of digital television in Latvia in several stages and shipping various equipment for digital broadcasts to Latvia. The total cost of the project was projected in the tens of millions of lats.

 

An investigation was launched regarding the digital television project and a criminal process was opened according to the Criminal Law's Section 317 – exceeding official authority, the Criminal Law's Section 319 – failure to act by a state official, the Criminal Law's Section 177 – fraud and the Criminal Law's Section 195 – legalizing illegally-acquired funds.
