Yesterday, the government of Latvia supported a request by the Culture Ministry and the Latvian National Opera (LNO) to allocate additional LVL 650,000 to LNO operations in 2012.

Next year, LNO budget will be increased by extra LVL 1.2 million, Culture Minister Zaneta Jaunzeme-Grende (VL-TB/LNNK) told reporters.

The opera is need of new stage technologies. Its current technologies are outdated. Their costs will be estimated, promised the minister, predicting them at around LVL 1 million, writes LETA.

LNO Managing Director Andrejs Zagars was delighted with the government's support and pointed out that the additional funds will suffice to ensure LNO operations this year.
