Businesses hold a view that Japan's tragedy will not have any influence on Lithuania's economy which is not closely related to the world's third largest economy. "Economic relations between the two countries are so small that there is nothing to discuss, we will not feel any consequences of Japan's earthquake on our economy," claims Algimantas Akstinas, the head of International Chamber of Commerce Lithuania.

On weekend, the production of such Japanese companies as Sony, Toyota and of many others was suspended, but Lithuania so far has not felt any consequences of it. According to the chancellor of Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts Andrius Verbyla, the Japanese have organized their marketing in a way that production is distributed via a network of distributors, writes LETA/ELTA.

"In Lithuania we do not have any serious representative of a Japanese manufacturer. We import Japanese production from other countries where the distributors are settled. In a case of a natural disaster, it may not be very good because we do not receive reliable information, "said Verbyla. According the Department of Statistics data, in 2010 the total Lithuanian import rates stood at 60.9 billion litas (17.65 billion euros). The imports from Japan reached only 85.5 million litas (24.8 million euros) which amounts to only 0.14% of total import. This rate places Japan in the 40th place, after Brazil. A similar ratio is for exported goods as well. Last year's volume of total exports stood at 54.3 billion litas (15.7 billion euros), while the export volume to Japan reached only 48.5 million litas (14 million euros).

The Land of the Rising Sun was only the 51st in the list of export target countries, after the United Arab Emirates.
