Aqualia's Deputy President Miguel Jurado Fernandex and Senior Partner Anders Blazguez have arrived to Tallinn this week to consider the opportunities offered by the Baltic States.

According to the company's executives, Tallinna Vesi, a third of which belongs to the City of Tallinn, made extensive investments in recent years; therefore, the company is very attractive in comparison with other water companies in the region, writes LETA.

The executives were also interested to know the prospects of Tallinna Vesi in 2020 when the current contract with United Utilities expires.

Mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar met yesterday with the representatives of Aqualia on Monday.

Savisaar said after the meeting that although the city has no plans to sell its minority holding in Tallinna Vesi, the municipality is interested in fostering cooperation between water companies, especially if the two water enterprise should reach an agreement.

United Utilities that owns the majority of Tallinna Vesi announced in June that it was selling its holdings in British and other European water companies including Tallinna Vesi to Veolia in a deal that would have been worth about 200 million euros. However, the company was forced to change plans after Estonian parliament voted for a law that cuts the power of monopolies and Veolia backed off from the deal.
