"Arena Riga" will have to pay an LVL 1,000 fine for breaking fire regulations at yesterday's concert by the popular German group "Rammstein", LETA was informed by Inga Vetere, spokeswoman for the State Fire and Rescue Service.

The water mains accident by Brasa railroad station yesterday in Riga resulted in reduced water pressure at "Arena Riga"; therefore, the venue's automatic fire-fighting system and sprinklers were non-functional, as were fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity.

Meanwhile, the "Rammstein" concert involved a massive special effects, fire and pyrotechnics spectacle, involving the use of around 2,000 liters of diesel fuel.

The concert is said to have been attended by around 11,000 people, and passed without incident. Fire and Rescue Service officers had requested that the event be called off, but this advice was not heeded by the organizers of the event.

In the end, Fire and Rescue Service water tankers were on stand-by at the venue for the duration of the concert.

Administrative proceedings have been initiated in accordance with section 179, paragraph 1 of the Administrative Code. As a result, "Arena Riga" could be applied the highest applicable fine of LVL 1,000, as well as having to pay the costs of having Fire and Rescue Service equipment on standby at the venue, Vetere told LETA.
