Debenhams stores in Latvia and Estonia to remain open

BC, Riga , 15.12.2020.Print version
Debenhams stores in Latvia and Estonia will remain open despite the announced liquidation of UK clothing retailer Debenhams, Ilona Skuja, a representative of DBH Ltd Baltics, which operates the stores in Latvia and Estonia, told LETA.

She indicated that DBH Ltd Baltics is an independent company whose Debenhams stores are operated under a franchise agreement.

"Of course, Debenham's unilateral sudden and unexpected announcement that the stores in the UK are being closed and the existing goods supply system remains in force only until March 1, 2021, was unpleasant as it goes against the existing agreements," said Skuja.

She informed that the Debenhams stores in Latvia and Estonia will continue operations and that work is under way on agreements with eight brands on direct deliveries of goods. "For the next three months, the Latvian team will have more work to adapt to the new logistics solutions," Skuja said, voicing confidence that the company will succeed with support from the  lessor and investors.

British department store chain Debenhams said it is is to be wound down after Christmas after the company's potential buyer, JD Sports, pulled out of the deal.
