Lithuanian president plans to nominate Simonyte for PM on Thursday

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is planning to formally nominate Ingrida Simonyte for the post of prime minister on Thursday, wirtes LETA/BNS.

"The prime minister's candidacy is planned to be submitted (to the parliament for approval) on Thursday," Povilas Maciulis, Nauseda's chief advisor, told. 

Simonyte was proposed to the post by the center-right coalition of the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party. The three parties hold 74 seats in the 141-member Seimas.   

Under the Statute of the Seimas, after the president presents Simonyte, the candidate will be given the floor and answer questions.

Parliamentary groups will then have two working days to discuss her candidacy. The full Seimas will have vote on whether to approve Simonyte for the post within a week after her nomination.  

If appointed as prime minister, Simonyte will have up to 15 days to form her Cabinet and have it approved by the president and present the government and its program to the parliament for approval.
