19 employees of Forevers meatpacker test positive for Covid-19

19 Covid-19 cases have been established among employees of Forevers meatpacking plant, the company's representatives confirmed LETA.

The company said that last week three employees tested positive for Covid-19. All the established contacts have been required to self-isolate. Also, following recommendations from the Health Ministry, other 273 employees were tested.


The test results showed that 16 other employees are infected, thus, the total number of the infections in the company is 19.


Premises of the production plant and office have been disinfected, all other employees are following the epidemiological safety measures - distancing, use of face masks and gloves, etc.


Deliveries of the products is conducted, following the highest-level safety measures. The company said that the food products are safe and the infection cannot be transmitted through the products.


The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) also has received information from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) about the situation in the company. PVD told LETA that, considering the company's specifics and findings that Covid-19 is not transmitted through food products, there are no concerns about safety of the food products or threats to human health. 


Forevers was registered in 1996, and has a share capital of EUR 6.305 mln. The company's sole owner is Andrejs Zdans.
