Due to disappointment in the party, Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis leaves Harmony's board

BC, Riga, 09.09.2020.Print version
MP Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis has decided to leave the board of Harmony. The politician informed this on his Twitter account today, but confirmed to LETA that he will remain a party member and continue his work in the party's Saeima group.

The politician explained that he has been on the party's board since November last year, despite differing views on how the party should work. However, over time, differences of opinion have only deepened on a number of issues.

"Starting from the need to give a clear assessment of corruption scandals in the Riga City Council and ending with the lack of any strategy to get the party out of the 'red lines' set by other parties," the politician explained.

Dombrovskis expressed "deep conviction" that if the party continues to maintain the current course, then the 2022 elections for Harmony may turn out to be the last.

"In such a situation, I cannot continue to serve as a member of the party's board," the parliamentarian stressed.

Dombrovskis explained that he joined the "Harmony" for ideological reasons, because he saw that it was the only party that had fought against the "red lines" on ethnic issues and thought about how to unite the divided people of Latvia. He also said he was not ready to work for another political force that maintains such "red lines".

The politician emphasized that Harmony must rebuild itself in order to avoid the possibility that the 14th Saeima elections would be its last. "If that is the case, then the question of my candidacy from this list will be superfluous," Dombrovskis said, adding that for the time being it is difficult for him to comment on future developments, as they largely depend on the ability of the political force to change.

He also added that if Harmony was not capable of change, then the flag of its ideas would fall to the ground, but there would certainly be someone else who would want to take over the values proclaimed by the party.

Dombrovskis had run for the position of party chairman, but lost out to veteran MP Janis Urbanovics, who was elected the party leader.
