Amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers up 0.6% in July

The amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers in July this year rose 0.6% against the same period of last year to 74,962 tons, informed LETA according to the information from the Latvian Agricultural Data Center.

Meanwhile, the amount of organic milk purchased from Latvian farmers in July 2020 was down 2.8% on year to 5,633. Processing of organic milk slowed 8.1% on year to 4,189 tons in July this year.

 

In July 2020, there were 12,496 dairy herds registered in Latvia, down 9.3% from the same period a year ago. Of all the dairy herds, 6,241 supplied milk to dairies in July, down 5.6% from July 2019.

 

The number of dairy cows in Latvia continued shrinking. In July 2020, there were 139,545 dairy cows registered in Latvia, down 2.7% from July 2019 when there were 143,162 dairy cows in Latvia. Of all the dairy cows registered in Latvia, 124,071 were producing milk in July, down 2.6 % from the same month in 2019.

 

According to the preliminary data, the average purchase price of fresh milk in Latvia in July this year was EUR 264.8 per ton as compared to EUR 254.9 per ton in June 2020.
