There is still a potential for Latvia to have a very good grain harvest this year, with the harvest of winter crops promising to be very good, Oskars Balodis, head of the crop farming department of the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Center, told LETA.

The expert said that weather conditions are favorable to gain crops this year. Unlike in two previous years, crops are not mellowing too fast but at a moderate pace.

The harvesting of the earliest winter crops will probably begin in the first week of August, while the harvesting of rapeseed is expected to start in the last week of August.

Balodis voiced hope that weather conditions during the harvest season in August will be dry enough and the crops will be harvested quickly.

The harvest of winter crops is promising to be very good, and there are also hopes for a good rapeseed and triticale harvest.

The warm and sunny weather Latvia is seeing lately is very conducive for protein to develop in the grain crops, which means they will be of high-quality.
