Amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers down 0.4% in H1
In June, the amount of fresh milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers rose 1.5 percent from May to 72,633 tons.
In June 2020, there were 12,559 dairy herds registered in Latvia, down 9.3 percent from the same period a year ago. Of all the dairy herds, 6,193 supplied milk to dairies in June, down 4.8 percent from June 2019.
The number of dairy cows in Latvia continued shrinking. In June 2020, there were 138,669 dairy cows registered in Latvia, down 2.9 percent from June 2019. Of all the dairy cows registered in Latvia, 123,039 were producing milk in June, down 1.8 percent from the same month in 2019.
According to the preliminary data, the average purchase price of fresh milk in Latvia in June this year slightly rose from the same month last year and was EUR 257.2 per ton.
