The remaining personal protective equipment (PPE) ordered by the Lithuanian state for medical workers is to be delivered from China by the end of May, a Lithuanian military officer said LETA/BNS.

Aurimas Guscius, the military's representative in the State Emergency Operations Center, said almost 32 mln items had already been delivered from China to Lithuania.

"More than 32 mln out of 35 mln units of various protective gear have already come from China to date. The contract was signed back in March. We plan that the last items will arrive by the end of this month," Guscius told a news conference.

"In order to properly prepare for the second wave of the coronavirus, the state aims to build at least three months' reserve of PPE," he added.

The military official noted that Lithuania's medical institutions would have to procure PPE themselves starting in June.

The Lithuanian government said earlier it had ordered 1.8 mln respirators, 5.7 mln facemasks, 0.8 mln pieces of protective eyewear, 1.8 mln disposable caps, 1.8 mln disposable gowns, over 1 mln disposable overalls, 15 mln disposable gloves, and 3.6 mln disposable overshoes from China.
