Latvia: Janis Vitenbergs appointed economics minister
Vitenbergs so far was the chairman of the Saeima national economic, rural, environment and regional policy committee and will replace his party member, Ralfs Nemiro, in the position of the economics minister.
Vitenbergs was apppointed to the position with 69 votes to six, while two MPs abstained in the vote.
Vitenbergs as the candidate for the economics minister was selected by KPV LV party, and nominated by Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity).
Karins said that Vitenbergs had been successfully chairing the Saeima committee, a number of legislative amendments have been revised under his lead. He is well aware of the sector and its needs, so it will be possible for him to get down to work immediately. Also, he has received the necessary security clearance needed to access state secrets.
As reported, Nemiro resigned as economics minister after his security clearance allowing to access state secrets was revoked. He has since resumed work as an MP. KPV LV party nominated Vitenburgs for the vacant post of economics minister.
