The British media regulator Ofcom has imposed a £20,000 fine (around EUR 24,000) on Baltic Media Alliance Limited in relation to its service NTV Mir Baltic for failing to comply with broadcasting rules, the regulator said in a statement referred LETA.

The broadcaster must also broadcast a summary of Offcom's findings on the channel.

Ofcom has found partial reporting on NTV Mir Baltic's news program about the poisoning of the Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter and Yulia in the UK.

On April 2, 2018, Baltic Media Alliance Limited NTV Mir Baltic broadcast a news program, Today, which included a discussion about the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury on 4 March 2018.

In Ofcom’s Decision published on February 11, 2019 in issue 372 of the Broadcast and On Demand Bulletin (PDF, 1.8 MB), Ofcom found that the program failed to maintain due impartiality and had breached Rules 5.1, 5.11 and 5.12 of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.

Ofcom has imposed a sanction on the licensee of a financial penalty of £20,000. Ofcom has also directed the licensee to broadcast a statement of Ofcom’s findings on dates and in a form to be determined by Ofcom.
