Agricultural production in Lithuania totalled EUR 2.67 bln in 2017

Statistics Lithuanian informs that in 2017, based on provisional data1, agricultural production at current prices totalled EUR 2.67 billion, or by 6.2% more than in 2016.

In 2017, crop and animal production amounted to EUR 2.29 billion, or by 6.6% more than in 2016. Although harvest of agricultural crops decreased by 3.2%, yet purchase prices of crop products increased by 3.8% and the value of crop production increased by 0.5%. The largest increase in purchase prices was observed for fruit, potatoes and cereals (12.6, 10.7 and 10.4% respectively), while decrease – for vegetables and legumes (12.2 and 9.2% respectively).


The value of animal production increased by 17.5%, which was conditioned by an 18.6% increase in animal production purchase prices; of which the largest increase in purchase prices was observed for milk (36.8%), cattle (14.9%), and pigs (12.1%). The volume of animal production dropped by 0.9% due to a decrease in the number of eggs collected (6.4%), pigs raised (2.8%) and milk yield received (1.4%).




The direct payments on products decreased by 10.5% and totalled EUR 290.2 million, while other subsidies on production increased by 31.5% and totalled EUR 223.1 million.


In 2017, against 2016, the material expenditure grew by 3.6%. An increase in expenditure was observed for fuel and energy (10.6%), seed and planting material (10.4%), feed (7.2%).


In 2017, the agricultural value added at current prices totalled EUR 1.05 billion, or by 5.7% more than in 2016.

Agricultural production ­– crop, animal and the related services production, as well as inseparable non-agricultural secondary activity production (inseparable non-agricultural secondary activity is such an activity whose costs cannot be separated from agricultural activity costs, e.g. reprocessing of farm products, forestry, logging, tourism).
