Riga plans to close 42 gambling halls in 5 years
The city council’s legal administration had drafted resolutions to revoke a
number of licenses that have been issued to operators for opening gambling
halls in Riga’s historical center and its protection area, as well as some
other territories. The restrictions would not apply to four- and five-star
hotels and public building territories.
As reported, on September 12, the city council’s committee already decided
to close nine gambling halls and today it was decided to shut down another 33.
Juris Liepins, director of the legal administration, has contacted the Lotteries and
Gambling Supervision Inspection to make sure that the gambling watchdog has
passed the necessary decisions on closing the gambling halls in downtown Riga.
The operators, however, will have five years to close gambling halls
affected by the local authority’s decision.
