Riepu Bloki appeals EUR 12.9 mln fine imposed by State Environmental Service

Riepu Bloki company has appealed a EUR 12.9 million fine imposed by the State Environmental Service for storing in Riga huge amounts of used tires well above the permitted limit, LETA was told at the Liepaja courthouse of Administrative Regional Court.

Representatives of the courthouse indicated that the Riepu Bloki application has been registered on October 11 and the case has been accepted for hearing on October 12.

 

The State Environmental Service has one month to provide explanations to the Liepaja courthouse about the penalty imposed on Riepu Bloki. After that, the Liepaja courthouse will decide on a date for hearing the case.

 

As reported, the State Environmental Service has also terminated its agreement with Riepu Bloki which had been storing tons of old tires on Starta Street in Riga. The State Environmental Service is also terminating waste management agreements with Nordic Recycling and Latvijas Zalais Eketrons and slapping fines of EUR 8.3 million and EUR 13.7 million respectively for a failure to pay natural resources tax.

 

Both Nordic Recycling and Latvijas Zalais Eketrons are also going to appeal the fines which they claim to be unlawfully imposed.
