Una Klapkalne appointed board chairwoman of Latvian public radio
Both board
member have been selected in a tender from almost 30 applicants. Both board
members have been appointed to the position for a term of five years.
Klapkalne has broad experience in managing positions
both in public administration and private sector. For the past ten years she
has worked as the board chairwoman of national information agency LETA and
Tvnet internet portal, and before that she was the deputy director of the State
Chancellery.
Tukisa has worked in different position in
commercial Radio Skonto Grupa since 2002.
The new board will start its work on October 3.
NEPLP member and Latvian Radio curator Ivars Abolins said that the council’s decision on both candidates was unanimous.
Klapkalne told the press after the appointment that,
in her opinion, change in the company’s administration mean change also in the
company, and not always pleasant for employees. "This company has a
historical value, it is very important for the Latvian states, it is a huge
responsibility to work here," said the new LR board chairwoman.
NEPLP informed that the main tasks of the new board
will be work on the programs made under the public contract and budget for
2018, a new remuneration system, LR strategy, implementation of structural
reforms, development of cooperation principles with the third parties,
attracting financing for development of its contents.
As reported, he National Electronic Mass Media Council’s
(NEPLP) nominations panel has approved a shortlist of five candidates for two
vacant seats on the Latvian Radio board.
NEPLP member and Latvian Radio curator Ivars Abolins said earlier that the new board will deal with the problems that led
to the sacking of Latvian Radio's previous head Sigita Roke, namely, the issues
with salaries and bonuses and sponsorship agreements.
In two weeks’ time, NEPLP will organize another tender
to pick a Latvian Radio board member in charge of program development.
