Lithuanian Seimas backs 'yellow card' to Brussels over posted workers

BC, Vilnius, 03.05.2016.Print version
The Lithuanian parliament has backed neighboring Poland's initiative to show a "yellow card" to Brussels' proposal that posted workers in EU member countries receive equal pay as local workers, informs LETA/BNS.

In a resolution passed on Tuesday, the Seimas supported the European Affairs Committee's decision that the European Commission's proposed revision of the remuneration rules does not comply with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.

The Seimas committee has said that remuneration is an area that fall exclusively within member states' competence.

Under the so-called "yellow card procedure, if at least ten of the EU's 28 national parliaments have a negative opinion about a legislative proposal, the European Commission should reconsider it.
