Payouts by Estonian Health Insurance Fund grow by EUR 65 mln

Total financing of healthcare by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund came to 974 million euros in 2015, approximately 65 million euros more than in 2014, informs LETA/BNS.

The fund financed healthcare services of Estonian residents in the total amount of 713 million euros, medication was financed in the total amount of 113 million euros and benefits for temporary incapacity for work in the total amount of 117 million euros, the Estonian Health Insurance Fund said.

 

Compared with 2014, financing of healthcare services grew 7% or 49 million euros – financing of general medical care grew 12%, financing of specialized medical care grew 6%, financing of nursing services 16% and financing of dental services 9%.

 

Money disbursed to the system of family doctors totaled 93 million euros, which is about 10 million euros more than in 2014.

 

Specialized medical care was provided to approximately 800,000 patients during the period for 562 million euros, which is 33 million euros more than in 2014. 

 

Dental services were financed in the amount of 22.6 million euros and the number of minors to whom the service was provided grew by 2,000.

 

Medicines were compensated for 113 million euros, 3% more than in 2014, and the number of prescriptions on which a compensation was paid was approximately eight million.

 

The Health Insurance Fund paid out 117 million euros in benefits for temporary incapacity for work, which is 13 million euros more than in 2014. The reason for the increase is higher average pay and increases in the numbers of working people and people taking maternity leave, the fund said.
