Atria signs letter of intent to sell Vastse-Kuuste meatpacking company

BC, Tallinn, 19.04.2016.Print version
Atria Eesti, Estonian operation of the listed Finnish food group Atria, has signed a letter of intent on the selloff of the Vastse-Kuuste meat processing company in southeastern Estonia and expects to complete the transaction in one or two months, CEO Olle Horm said, cites LETA/BNS.

He said the 40 workers laid off by Atria Eesti are expected to be able to start working at the same facility then.

"Yes, we have signed a preliminary agreement by now. Since the purchase and sale agreement covers both the building and the production equipment, the new owner will be processing meat too and hopefully there will be no loss of jobs," Horm told BNS.

Horm would not disclose the name of the buyer or the price, just saying that the buyer is an Estonian company.

"Hopefully business will resume and the 40 people who have lost their jobs by now can go on working there," the executive added.

Estonia's Minister of Rural Affairs Urmas Kruuse has previously said rumor has it that several smaller pig producers are planning to set up a pigmeat processing company together and suggested that they could be interested in the Vastse-Kuuste plant, among other things.
