During a meeting on April 5th between Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers) and the new Iranian Ambassador to Latvia Abdolrasool Mohajer Hejazi, the two sides discussed possibilities in expanding the export of Latvian agricultural, food and fish products to Iran, LETA was informed by the Agriculture Ministry.

During the meeting, Duklavs informed the ambassador that Latvian producers are interested in diversifying the export of food products to Iran. ''Even though the export volumes of food products are relatively small, we are interested in increasing mutual trade,'' the agriculture minister said.

Already since 2012, the main export product of Latvia to Iran has been grain. In 2015, Latvian exported wheat worth EUR 4.4 million to Iran.

Meanwhile, the main food products exported from Iran to Latvia are various types of fried fruit and nuts.
