Six Lithuanian companies have been named among the top ten most profitable media owners in the Baltic countries in 2014, informs LETA/BNS.

The list compiled by Creditreform Lietuva, the Lithuanian credit risk assessment company, and its colleagues from Latvia and Estonia, also features two Latvian companies and two companies from Estonia.

“In most cases, the revenues and profits published officially by media concerns come from many sources hence we’ve decided to rank private companies, which own media organizations directly, instead of those individual media outlets,” Creditreform Lietuva CEO, Saulius Zilinskas, said in a press release.

TV3 Latvia, owned by Sweden’s MTG Broadcasting, ranked first on the list with the profit of 3.08 million euros. Lithuania’s Tele-3 was second with the profit of 2.17 million euros and Lithuania’s Lietuvos Rytas was third with 2.04 million euros.

Lithuania’s Laisvas ir Nepriklausomas Kanalas was fourth with the profit of 1.27 million euros and Latvia's Zurnals Santa was fifth with 1.18 million euros.

The top ten also includes Estonia’s Aripaev with 1.15 million euros, Lithuania’s Delfi with 961,300 euros, Lithuania’s M-1 with 888,500 euros, Estonia’s Eesti Ajalehed with 639,800 euros and Lithuania’s Savaite with 600,700 euros.

Thirty seven (70%) of 53 private companies and state enterprises, which owned 75 most popular media organizations in the Baltic countries, generated a profit in 2014, Zilinskas said.

Creditreform Lietuva cooperated with Creditreform Latvia, Estonia’s Krediidiinfo, TNS LT, TNS Latvia, TNS Emor and Gemius to compile the top ten.
