“Lithuania’s exports to China quadrupled in the past five years. Further expansion of the country’s exports to China is one of the key challenges of the near future and one of the government’s priorities,” a press release from the government quoted him as saying.

In 2015, relations between Lithuania and China were intensive and successful, Butkevicius said, adding that Lithuania’s food processing companies were ready to export high-quality domestic dairy and meat products.

He pointed out that China’s private and public companies were increasingly choosing Lithuania for the expansion of their business abroad. As an example, he mentioned Huawei and China Merchants Group.

“It’s a solid foundation for the continuation of the history of successful business and political relations between Lithuania and China. Lithuania invests in science as it seeks to adapt innovations and technologies. Our goal is to become the most advanced science and research hub in Central and Eastern Europe,” Butkevicius said.

On Monday, he attended the official ceremony of signing cooperation agreements between the participants of Lithuania-China business forum hosted by Beijing. In total, Lithuania’s and China’s companies signed ten agreements.
