Services responsible for public security in Lithuania are using outdated equipment, lack firearms, ammunition and security measures, the head of the Public Security Service and the Lithuanian Police Anti-terrorist Operations Unit ARAS told the national television LRT on Thursday night, cites LETA/BNS.

"Our human factor, human resources are definitely prepared. … But in terms of hardware matching modern threats, both internal and external, we are not ready. We have nothing. The situation is bad," PSS head Ricardas Pocius said.

In his words, the hardware and equipment services have are "museum relics" and the PSS would be able to protect its officers only in case of riots.

"But if there were shots, explosions or a terror act – we are doomed. Our officers are doomed to be killed," Pocius said.

Meanwhile, ARAS head Viktoras Grabauskas said his squad has fairly good weapons and they are insufficient, and only part of officers can be armed.
