Lithuanian businessmen slapped with lawsuits in Kazakhstan

BC, Vilnius, 06.11.2015.Print version
Lithuanian investors face problems in Kazakhstan as tax authorities in the Central Asian country, which has been affected by Western sanctions on Russia, use all possible means to raise additional budget revenue, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported on November 6th, reports LETA/BNS.

A lawsuit was filed in October against Vytautas Varasimavicius, who is about to complete the construction of the Lithuanian House on the outskirts of Karaganda.

The Lithuanian, who purchased the plot of land from the municipality back in 2011, did not know until this year that, under a law in effect since 2013, permission from environmental authorities is required to buy land.

Kazakhstan's National Revenue Committee has slapped Libella Bottlers Almaty, a company owned by Eligijus Survila, with a 22.5-million-euro back tax claim over its alleged failure to pay taxes for land resources.

Trade between Lithuania and Kazakhstan amounts to around 1 billion US dollars.
