An Euromonitor forecast refers to the fact that Estonians spend more and more money on alcohol, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

According to Euromonitor, by the year 2021, Estonia will be ahead of Finland, Switzerland, Norway and New Zealand regarding the amount of money spent on alcohol per capita, and will keep the lead at least until 2030.

In 2013, the amount spent on alcohol per capita was the biggest in Finland, 745 euros a year. Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand an Estonia spent in the same range.

Of Estonian consumers' total spending, 6.5% was spent in 2013 on buying alcohol while the world average was 1.5%. In Russia and Belarus, it was 5.8% and 5.5% respectively, in Latvia and Lithuania it was 5.3%.

The spending on alcohol per capita is usually the direct result of the alcohol policy of the state. In addition to legislation, alcohol consumption across countries is affected by the level of income, consumption patterns and demographic trends.
