Vejonis and Reizniece-Ozola discussed business environment in Latvia

During a meeting with Economy Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) yesterday, President Raimonds Vejonis expressed his resolve to do everything in his power to help improve the business environment in Latvia, as the President's Press Office told LETA.

The president emphasized during the meeting that he would participate in the work on improving the business environment and supporting businessmen's export opportunities. Latvia's economic development needs to be faster so the country's international competitiveness improve, said Vejonis. "Successful entrepreneurship that generates steady growth of the gross domestic product per every resident is the cornerstone of the country's prosperity," said the president. Stable and predictable tax policy is also very important and brings more investments to the country, Vejonis and Reizniece-Ozola agreed.

 

Vejonis and Reizniec-Ozola also agreed that they would cooperate closely on planning businessmen's participation in the president's foreign visits.

 

During today's meeting, Reizniece-Ozola informed Vejonis about her vision of Latvia's labor market, highlighting the importance of vocational education and dual education system. The officials also discussed banks' lending policies and the program of mortgages for families buying their first home.

 

Commenting on the pending liberalization of the natural gas market, Vejonis said that deregulation of the market in 2017 would be important for the economic development of Latvia. Diversified gas supplies will ensure competitive natural gas prices for both companies and households, as well as make Latvia's investment climate more attractive, said Vejonis.
