Latvia could increase its fish export to Ukraine, while Ukraine is being invited to consider working out a less encumbered procedure for import of this product. The above was recommended at a meeting of Ukrainian Ambassador Yevgen Perebyinis and Latvian Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers), reports LETA.

With regard to the growing interest of Ukrainian businessmen, the ambassador said that Latvia could increase its fish export to Ukraine, as last year it amounted to EUR 3.7 million. Meanwhile, the agriculture minister urged Ukraine to streamline the procedure for fish import from Latvia.

The ambassador also praised Latvia's achievements in forestry, pointing out Ukraine's interest in acquiring Latvia's experience in forest management. Meanwhile, Duklavs proposed conducting an exchange of forestry experts in coming months.

As reported, Ukraine previously expressed interest in increased cooperation with Latvia in grain cultivation and cattle breeding, as Duklavs told LETA following a three-day working visit to Kiev in April.

"War is war, but farmers across Ukraine continue their chores in full swing in spite of everything, people are working really hard. Ukraine is very interested in our ports, elevators, and the opportunity to export grain to Latvia. It would be an excellent perspective for bilateral cooperation, taking into account the fertility of the Ukrainian soil, and its excellent harvests," said Duklavs.
