Minister: Riga East Clinical University Hospital showing all signs of insolvency

BC, Riga, 24.02.2015.Print version
There are multiple indications that the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital is on the brink of insolvency, Health Minister Guntis Belevics (Greens/Farmers) said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" this morning, informs LETA.

The minister said that now he must do everything in his power in order to prevent the hospital from being closed. A plan of action will be drawn up. "This is one of our biggest challenges. We have not yet seen the hospital's balance sheet, profit and loss account, but the hospital has a negative equity," Belevics emphasized.

When asked how this situation came to be, the minister explained that the Riga East Clinical University Hospital constantly informed former Health Ministry's State Secretary Rinalds Mucins about this problem, yet no solution was found. He added that service fees at the hospital have been insufficient for a long time.

The minister also said that it would be useless to ask for any funds from the government. He believes that due to the geopolitical situation, it will be impossible to acquire the necessary funding.

"We will go very deep into this issue," the minister concluded, promising to soon come up with a specific solution.
