Transition to one emergency phone number creates prerequisites for faster and more precise response to emergency calls and thus help can reach those who need it faster.
There is no waiting time for a 112 call as the first free emergency call centre operator in any regional centre will take the call. The emergency centre positions the location of the caller immediately during the call on a digital map and determines the caller's location, using the description given by the caller and the digital map search options, as precisely as possible.
So far, the police had a separate number, 110 and when people call that number now, they are automatically connected with the number 112 for a longer transition period.
112 is the emergency number for ambulance, rescue workers and police in the entire European Union. Estonia celebrates the 112 day this year with the transition to a single emergency number 112.
