There is no exact data on how many prison inmates of Estonian citizenship are in prisons of other states. 123 Estonian citizens were serving their prison sentences in Finnish prisons at the end of the last year. That formed nearly a fourth of all the 456 prisoners in Finland who were foreign citizens.
The Finnish media has in recent weeks discussed repeatedly why several European Union states haven’t ratified the EU agreement on the transfer of foreign prisoners to their homeland.
Estonian justice ministry said that Estonia should approve of the corresponding decision this year.
