Corruption Prevention Bureau detains Riga Regional Court Judge Berzina

Print versionThe Corruption Prevention Bureau officers arrived at the Riga Regional Court today, and the office of Judge Iveta Berzina has been sealed, as the court's chairwoman Daiga Vilsone confirmed to LETA.

While Vilsone had no information whether Berzina has been arrested, LETA has found out that several offices at the court were searched today, and that Berzina has been detained.
Berzina is a judge on the Riga Regional Court Civil Cases Panel.
Some of the high-profile cases reviewed by the judge include former State Real Estate Agency Director General Janis Motte's compensation claim against the Justice Ministry in 2013, and Parex banka's claim against its former owners Viktors Krasovickis and Georgijs Krasovickis.
Before moving to Riga, Berzina worked at Jurmala Court, where she presided over a criminal case in which former Jurmala Mayor Juris Hlevickis was charged with failure to act.
