The Coalition in Lithuania is not distancing itself from the question of increasing the minimum monthly salary. According to Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, it will continue discussions over additional increase of minimum wages by mid-2015, reports LETA/ELTA.

"Yes, we will talk again in the Political Council. Yesterday (on 2 October – ELTA) the finance minister and I had a working lunch with the Seimas speaker and President Rolandas Pakasas. We are holding talks and will continue to do so, it is one of the most significant draft laws in our country and it calls for wide discussions," the prime minister told the media on Friday.

The ruling Labour Party maintains that next year's budget is similar to this year's and should be even bigger. Therefore, the Government has to increase wages of the lowest earners in the public sector and once again raise the minimum monthly salary.

The prime minister declared such intention on numerous occasions as well, however, the Seimas Speaker Loreta Grauziniene says that the social democrats are not inclined to raise the minimum salary again, hence the serious discussions over the matter.
