16 Estonian MPs used up their cost compensations fully in H1

The compensations for members of the Estonian Riigikogu for their work-related costs amounted to a total of more than 0.5 million euros in the first half of the year 2014; 16 MPs used up their cost compensations almost fully, LETA/Postimees writes.

By law, members of parliament are compensated work-related expenses in the amount of up to 30% of the salary of an ordinary parliament member. Every MP could use up to 6,245 euros and 22 cents for cost compensations in half a year.

 

Riigikogu chancellery review shows that the cost compensation was fully used by Reform Party MPs Deniss Borodich, Tõnu Juul, Tarmo Leinatamm, Kalev Lillo, Kristen Michal and Kalle Palling; Social Democrats Kalvi Kõva and Marianne Mikko, Pro Patria and Res Publica Union MPs Marko Mihkelson and Liisa Pakosta and Centre Party MPs Lauri Laasi, Mihhail Stalnuhhin, Olga Sõtnik, Peeter Võsa and Ester Tuiksoo, who has by now left the party and the parliament due to a guilty court verdict. Social Democrat Jaak Allik was 87 cents short of using the full sum.

 

Of these who were members of the parliament all six months, the most economising were Reform Party MPs Paul-Erik Rummo and Tiina Lokk-Tramberg, who used 1,775 and 1,778 euros of the compensation respectively.

 

Altogether, 523,460 euros was spent on compensating work-related expenses of MPs, of which the majority, or 386,656 euros was for transport costs. Representation and reception expenses amounted to 59,715, communication and postage 47,167, travelling expenses 16,240, office expenses 7,036 and accommodation costs 5,180 euros.

 

Training and translation costs took only 350 and 1,117 euros respectively.
