BC, Tallinn, 26.03.2014.Print version
The Reform Party members of Estonia's second-largest city Tartu proposed Riigikogu culture committee chairman Urmas Klaas as the candidate for the post of mayor of the city, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The post of the mayor of Tartu became vacant since Urmas Kruuse, who was in that job so far, will start working in the new government as the health and labour minister.

Klaas's candidacy has to be approved of by the city council.

Klaas has earlier worked as Põlva county governor.

Klaas said that when becoming mayor of Tartu, he considers cooperation with parishes and counties in the vicinity of Tartu important.

Klaas doesn’t intend to carry out any changes in the city government staff.
