Without objections, the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia gave its approval for increased volume of felling of trees in state forests by four million cubic meters in 2009 and 2010.

The Agriculture Ministry had drawn up a bill to amend the October 5, 2005 decree, issued by the Cabinet of Ministers on "Maximum Permitted Volume of Felling Of Trees 2006-2010, reports LETA.

As Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis (Latvia's First Party/Latvia's Way) underlined, this decision is necessary for a sector that has fallen on hard times.
