Expanding cooperation with Asia is a very important direction of Latvia's external economic policy. Therefore Latvia wants to establish closer relations with Malaysia and other Asian countries, emphasized the prime minister.

To promote Latvian-Malaysian cooperation, it is necessary to organize an exchange of visits between Latvian and Malaysian businessmen, allowing them to become familiar with Latvian and Malaysian business opportunities and establish contacts, agreed both officials.

Dombrovskis informed Anifah about Latvia's plans of appointing an honorary consul to Malaysia and setting expanding economic cooperation among the main tasks.

Anifah was also informed about Latvia's goals of joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the eurozone. "These will be additional advantages for Latvia when competing for investors, addressing new markets and convincing foreign businessmen to launch cooperation with Latvia," added Dombrovskis.
