President Dalia Grybauskaite will propose Leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) Algirdas Butkevicius for the prime minister office. The president intends to do it on Tuesday.

Grybauskaite announced such decision after a meeting with LSDP leader, Monday, reports LETA/ELTA.

"The Social Democrats received most of the parliamentary seats in this election and they are the only ones who managed to form a majority. I would like to highlight it, because the others were also offered to form the majority, therefore I will submit as a candidate to assume the prime minister's position the leader of this party, "says Grybauskaite.

However, once again the president criticized the ruling coalition formation with the prosecuted Labour Party.

"Only time will show whether the Social Democrats will implement responsible and transparent policy or having identified with the prosecuted party they will become its shield form the law enforcement. Only time will tell whether the concern of the formed majority will become the well-being of Lithuanian people or backlog of cases before the limitations statute takes effect and money distribution in favor of oligarchic groups, "says the president.

"Today, we identify those who have won the election, but we have no winners as yet. Therefore, I wish the Social Democratic leader to safeguard the honor of the party and the state without stumbling as the case was in the recent days, and to try to form a government that could accept responsibility for state governance," she said as the quoted by the presidential press service.
