Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Reform Party) wishes to carry out all of the preparatory work next year in order to open two new Latvian embassies outside of the European Union.

As Rinkevics told members of the press yesterday, these embassies could be opened in India and Brazil, as he sees the necessity for Latvia to have a presence in these countries, informs LETA.

The foreign minister also added that Latvia's network of embassies will be evaluated next year, and that an informative report on the ministry's view regarding the representation of Latvia's economic and political interests until 2020 will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers'.

The minister explained that the report will emphasize Latvia's representation outside of the EU, especially in markets that currently seem interesting to Latvian, like South East Asia and Latin America.

The minister also added that there could also be an increase in the number of honorary consuls in countries like India and Brazil next year, as well as in countries where Latvia does not have any honorary consuls at the moment.
